Low Carbon Research Institute (LCRI)
‘The Low Carbon Research Institute has been established to unite and promote the diverse range of energy research in Wales, UK in order to deliver a low carbon future.’
The LCRI aims to support the whole energy sector, UK and globally, in developing low carbon generation, storage, distribution and end use technologies.
Rhodri Morgan, First Minister, Welsh Assembly Government said ‘The development of a low carbon energy economy in Wales is one of the Welsh Assembly Government’s priorities to help reduce our carbon footprint. We need to engage with Welsh institutions and organisations to find a Welsh solution to the challenge of climate change that in no way compromises the competitiveness, in fact should boost, the Welsh economy and the establishment of a Low Carbon Institute will help to develop our research expertise and boost Wales’ international competitiveness.”
Collaborating for a Low Carbon Wales
LCRI Conference
The first LCRI conference “Collaborating for a Low Carbon Wales” took place successfully at the end of November. Covering the areas of Zero Carbon Built Environments, Photovoltaics, Large Scale Power Generation, Marine, Hydrogen and Bioenergy, the event attracted attendees from industry, policy and academia. Brisk discussions took place at the end of each of the sessions and during the evening forum.
